Gut Feelings – Cross cultural fermentation

The workshop and lecture by artist and cultural activist Eva Bakkeslett in collaboration with Tromsø Folkekjøkken and AiR Barents 2016

Artist Eva Bakkeslett spent three weeks in AIR Barents residency in Arkhangelsk in October 2015. In collaboration with Tromsø Folkekjøkken and Eva Bakkeslett AIR Barents invites you to Gut Feelings – Cross Cultural Fermentation workshop and presentation in the Eka café at Tromsø kunstforening on June 1, 2016 from 17-21h.

In this workshop you will meet:
– Groundbreaking bacterial cultures
– An emigrated but returned rømmekolle culture
– Learn to ferment weeds and waste food
that would otherwise be thrown away
– Eat a delicious soup with nice people whilst
hearing about Russian self-sufficiency and
fermenting practices.

Eva Bakkeslett is an artist, filmmaker, curator and gentle activist, exploring the potential for social change through gentle actions and subtle mind-shifts. Her socially engaged practice often combines film, participatory events and workshops; She frequently collaborates with other artist, activists, scientist and engaged people in her work.

Eva creates spaces and experiences that challenge our thinking and unravel new narratives that inspire and engage us to make sense of and embody sustainable and thriving ways. By revealing and reclaiming forgotten or rejected practices, concepts and cultures her work directs our attention to the patterns that connect us to the earth as a living organism.
